Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Museum Preparator for the Zimmerli Art Museum. This position plays a key role in the preparation of works for exhibitions at the Museum.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:


Prepares works of art on paper for in-house and travelling exhibitions including matting and framing.
Provides storage and general care of the collections of works of art on paper.
Performs basic conservation work when needed.
Prepares labels for exhibitions.

Minimum Education and Experience



Bachelor’s degree in fine arts or related field or an equivalent combination of education
and/or related experience.




Certifications/Licenses




Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Experience in the proper handling of artworks, matting, and framing works on paper.
General knowledge of matting and framing a variety of works on paper mediums.
Ability to work independently and in a timely manner.
Familiarity with museum quality matting and framing.
Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Ability to do basic math, especially with measurements.
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced museum environment while maintaining professional standards.




Preferred Qualifications



Willingness to work collaboratively and seek additional professional opinions when needed.

Mat cutter.
Framing tools.
Adhesives.
Archival supplies.




Physical Demands and Work Environment



Must be able to stand for most of the workday.
Some heavy lifting required.
