The Conservator is responsible for the conservation and preservation of the museum's art collection and artworks entrusted to the museum’s care. This role encompasses professional duties related to examination, analysis, reporting, documentation, preservation, conservation, exhibition, transport, and storage of both the art collection and loaned materials. As one of the lead professionals on the conservation team, the Conservator provides guidance and direction in their area of expertise and as needed for other projects.
The Conservator (Objects) is responsible for the conservation, preservation, and technical study of three-dimensional objects including metals, ceramics, lacquered objects, archaeological materials, wood, stone, and modern materials. The collection of time-based media artwork is growing. The Conservator will help build the preservation program for time-based media. In support of technical investigations, the Objects Conservator operates the X-radiography and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy equipment and manages the data.
The Conservator maintains a sound understanding of preservation and conservation best practices while representing their area of expertise in compliance with the American Institute for Conservation’s (AIC) Code of Ethics.
The Conservator regularly interacts with staff, vendors, visitors, volunteers, members, and colleagues in a friendly and respectful manner.
