Senior Exhibition Technician at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin
This position will report to the Exhibition Manager and perform all duties related to exhibition preparation; including but not limited to, installation, de-installation, moving, packing, shipping, and coordination of necessary staff and materials.

Responsibilities


Prepares collection material for display, including matting, framing, cradle making, mount making, and other methods of material presentation.
Deinstalls exhibitions, including vinyl removal and safe tracking and return of collections items to Curators.
Assists with exhibition installation, including wall preparation and painting, positioning of display furniture and moveable walls, hanging framed work, laying out display cases, configuring exhibition lighting, and installing exterior building banners.
Formats, prints, mounts, and trims all exhibition wall texts and case labels.
Cleans display cases and furniture and maintains exhibit lighting on a weekly basis.
Operates power machinery such as table saws, buffing equipment, paper and board cutters, and other related equipment. Does light carpentry work.
Moves and installs collection material throughout the Ransom Center, other university properties, and remote sites.
Lifts and moves heavy and fragile collection items such as framed items, sculpture, and shipping crates.
Performs other exhibition related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


Minimum 4 years of experience physically handling and installing artifacts in a museum or gallery.
Knowledge of museum standards regarding the care and handling of objects, including experience preparing collection material for display. I.e. matting, framing, cradle making, mount making, and other methods of material presentation.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate records.
Creative thinker and problem solver who can make sound decisions under pressure and against deadlines.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding; ability to use power machinery; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to use eyes and hands to examine and handle delicate objects.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications


More than 4 years of experience physically handling and installing artifacts in a museum or gallery.
Experience with professional packing and shipping of collection materials.


Salary Range
$43,000 dependent upon qualifications

Working Conditions


Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to use eyes and hands to examine and handle delicate objects.


Work Shift


M-F, 8am – 5pm, with ability to work overtime during periods of installation/deinstallation.
