Registrar, Archaeology/Ethnology
New Jersey State Museum
The New Jersey State Museum seeks a Registrar for the Archaeology/Ethnology Bureau with responsibility for the management of the collection. The Registrar determines, plans, executes, and makes decisions for the maintenance and preservation of all objects and associated records in the Bureau of Archaeology/Ethnology collections and those on loan to the NJ State Museum; supervises the recording and management of data on collections and materials entering or leaving the museum and verifies the locations and conditions of these materials on a regular schedule; monitors the location, condition, and documentation of all items on loan to the museum; aids in conducting excavations which contribute archaeological specimens to the collection; provides input on exhibitions and Bureau programming; maintains the inventory and mapping of all reported and known archaeological sites in New Jersey; does other related duties. Salary: $50,142.27 – $70,988.79.
Requirements –
Experience: One (1) year of experience in Northeastern archeological field and laboratory work involving the research and identification of archeological and ethnological items and materials.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in anthropology, including or supplemented by six (6) semester hours credits in Northeastern North American Prehistory.
License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: New Jersey Residency required. If you do not reside in New Jersey, you have one year after the date you begin employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey.
