Private foundation in Salem, NH with fine arts and antiques collection is seeking to hire a full time Collections Management Assistant. Position reports to Director of Registration and Collections Management and supports a Collections staff of seven. Candidate must be a self starter able to work well independently and as part of a team, be detail oriented, have effective communication skills, be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently under the pressure of deadlines, have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook, have a basic knowledge of professional museum standards in registration procedures and methods of documenting, handling, storing, packing and shipping art and artifacts, and experience in art handling of all types.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive and release shipments including unpacking, packing and generating Incoming and Outgoing Receipts
Process new acquisitions including number painting, measuring, barcoding
Assist Registrars with accession file creation and filing
Assist Registrars with backlog of number painting, barcode tagging, object re-housing
Assist with Integrated Pest Management Plan implementation, including monitoring incoming collections for signs of pest infestation, monitoring and placing traps, entering data in IPM database, and tracking trends, and preparing reports.
Assist with site inventories
Design and fabricate protective storage mounts and boxes.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of Receiving and Processing areas
Monitor, stock and maintain supplies for packing, processing and storage
Matting and framing of 2d objects as required
Light collections housekeeping
Deliver and pick up objects in departmental van
Maintain inventory of empty crates stored on-site
Supervise outside contractors
Assistance with courier trips
Performance of related work as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates or BA degree in related field preferred. Two years preparator experience in a museum field or related business.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum of 2 years museum experience in the technical aspects of museum standard art handling practices, packing and storage
Basic knowledge of registration methods and practices, professional museum standards in registration procedures and methods of documenting, handling, packing and shipping art and artifacts
Knowledge of standard conservation practices
Experience designing and fabricating object housings/mounts
Literacy in Microsoft Access database and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
preferred
Experience with bar-coding technology a plus
Able to travel for 2-3 days at a time for offsite projects
Able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; ability to work at heights over twenty feet
Must be able to operate an order picker (training will be provided)
Ability to supervise the work of others
Must have current driver’s license and clean driving record
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
