Title: Warehouse Manager
Department: Art Storage
Reports to: Director
Job Objective:
A Unique opportunity to take a leadership role in a successful and rapidly growing fine art storage provider in New York City. The warehouse manager oversees the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely release of artworks. S/he ensures workplace health and safety requirements are met and takes responsibility for the security of the building and artworks in storage.
The warehouse manager plans the arrangement of artworks within customer storage areas and organizes special requirements for certain pieces, such as oversized artworks, delicate collections, or temporary in-transit storage. S/he ensures productivity targets are met and maintains computerized administration and storage and retrieval systems. S/he manages a small team of art handlers and deals with personnel issues such as the recruitment, training and discipline of staff. The manager also oversees packing activity; however crating is performed by outside experts.
The warehouse manager is the point of contact for customer requests. S/he is responsible for creating work orders, answering customer emails, and phone calls. This person has heavy customer contact and must be professional, well spoken, neat and organized. The ideal candidate will have spent more than 5 years in the New York City museum, gallery, or art Services Company. The candidate must have experience packing, installing, and moving a wide range of objects and must be familiar with established best practices for the storage of artwork. The candidate must also have experience leading a team and working independently.
Responsibilities:
Oversees small staff of art handlers
Plans and implements daily work schedule including dock activity
Responsible for quality control and that company standards are met
Generates work orders, keeps customer files, daily activity log, employee files
Maintains customer inventory records
Orders and maintains warehouse equipment and packing materials
Responds to all customer request
Reports facility and maintenance issues to in-house maintenance department
Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes
Job Specifications:
5 years of experience in art or art logistics industry
Experience interacting with art professionals and collectors
Demonstrated effective management skills
Demonstrated art handling skills
Professional phone manner and writing skills
Able to lift/move 50lbs
