MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have four years of production experience in exhibit fabrication, art handling and object preparation in a museum or educational or cultural institution. A maximum of two years of appropriate training in exhibit fabrication, art handling or object preparation may be substituted for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $55,455 based on annual performance advances.

(http://www.paccin.org/assets/help/vacancyReviewHelp.cfm#vacancyInfo.duties) Duties Description The New York State Museum is seeking candidates to fill a position of Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Preparation and Fabrication). Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval. Under the direction of the Museum Exhibit Specialist 2 in the Preparation and Installation department, the Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Prep/Fab) will prepare artifacts, art and specimens for display. Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Perform art handling, specimen and artifact handling of State Museum collections and loan collections for gallery exhibitions from external museums;
• Prepare object mounts, prepare specimens, art and artifacts for exhibitions, mat and frame works on paper, photographs and specimens;
• Prepare and install exhibit architecture and elements, such as cases and bases;
• Produce specialized exhibit elements as designed and paint and/or finish galleries, furniture, exhibit components and/or spaces as required;
• Work with museum exhibit designers and exhibit support staff to handle and install changing exhibitions and maintain existing collections based exhibitions by rebuilding or repairing worn or broken exhibits;
• Assist in transporting, uncrating and handling works of art by using established and approved fine art and artifact handling techniques; fabricate and pack shipping containers to house traveling exhibits of Museum collections.
