JOB SUMMARY:This position is located in the Preservation and Restoration Unit of the Collections Division, Collections and Research Department, National Air and Space Museum (NASM). The employee serves as a skilled member of the preservation and restoration team and works under the supervision of the Foreperson, Preservation and Restoration Unit.

DUTIES:

Prepares large artifacts in the aeronautics and space history collection for a major move to and installations at all NASM locations.
Designs and constructs forms, jigs, cradles dollies, and slings, as needed to safely handle artifacts during the restoration process and in preparation for the movement of the artifacts.
Maintains a clear, concise, and detailed written report of each restoration project, often with daily entries.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:You must meet at least ONE of the requirements described below:
Experience: Grade 7: One year of full-time experience at the Grade 5 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. The experience includes activities such as: applying conservation, preservation or restoration of historic technical, industrial, and/or transportation machinery or equipment. Grade 9: One year of full-time experience at the Grade 7 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. The experience includes activities such as: applying conservation, preservation or restoration of aeronautics and/or space artifacts.
