ART STORAGE COORDINATOR – SHIPMENTS AND ART MOVEMENT
Under the direction of the Collections Manager, the Art Storage Coordinator will perform duties related to the management of the offsite art storage facility. Essential functions will include: Co-manage daily operational activity at the offsite storage facility; Supervise the transport of art objects between the Museum and the offsite storage facility; Move and pack objects with an emphasis on object safety, including determining use of appropriate art handling equipment; Assist curatorial, conservation, and other departments during all visits to offsite storage, and keep track of an active visitor schedule; Process new acquisitions, including numbering objects and re-housing in archival packing materials, and fabricate specialized storage supports for objects as needed; Facilitate storage upgrades; Perform data entry as required in collections management database (training provided), including recording of object movements; Perform annual inventory of the offsite storage facility; Assure that the collections management van is current with its registration and receives annual inspections, oil changes, and tune-ups. Provide transportation to and from offsite storage for all Museum staff who need transportation; Coordinate all maintenance and repair service visits for equipment at the offsite storage facility. Supervise vendor representatives as needed; Supervise and oversee two to four collections care staff and/or contractors daily, and train all new personnel who work at the offsite storage facility; Organize annual workshop for certification training on all offsite equipment for all staff who work at the offsite storage facility; Act as a first point of contact for emergency situations involving the offsite storage facility; May be asked to serve as courier and escort objects in transit to other museums.
Candidates are required to have experience in art handling and packing. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required. Ability to travel preferred. This position requires that the employee frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. The employee is required to safely operate heavy equipment, and must obtain and maintain during employment certification for heavy equipment per OSHA guidelines.
