Position Information:
The ARTSblock Senior Preparator is responsible for all aspects of preparation and production of the UCR/California Museum of Photography, Sweeney Art Gallery, and Culver Center exhibitions. The position will work under the general direction of the ARTSbock Exhibition Designer and will work closely with the ARTSblock Directors and Curators to prepare physical and conceptual designs for contemporary and historical art and interactive exhibitions.
Minimum Requirements:
High School/GED and 1 year of preparatory experience in a museum field; or graduation from college with a major in a selected discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven record of efficient performance in supervising and installing fine art exhibits under strict timelines.
Experience in coaching and supervising students, interns, and volunteers for best performance.
Experience in light construction techniques.
Experience in dry mounting and cutting exhibition text panels and captions.
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills applicable to a deadline oriented, creative, and academic atmosphere.
Skills in the use of conventional and power tools for modeling and exhibition design.
Knowledge/practice of conservation techniques and use of materials in preparation and care of works on paper and photographic materials (matting/framing).
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping/receiving and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials.
Ability to function independently and take responsibility for results.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of museum practices and standards.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and time lines with close attention to detail.
Ability to move objects weighing 40lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of contemporary art, photography, and media works.
Knowledge of contemporary museum design.
Bachelor's degree in Art, museum Sciences, or related field.
Three years experience working in the arts or related environment
