Mount Maker Position - Penn Museum, Philadelphia, PA POSITION AVAILABLE: MOUNT MAKER

The Penn Museum seeks to fill the position of mount maker, depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will be under the direction of the exhibitions department, working closing with museum conservators, designers, curators, registrars and collections staff. Onsite, there is a fully equipped mount making studio, with access to the Museum's woodshop. The successful candidate will design, fabricate and document museum-quality, seismically stable mounts for objects from the comprehensive collections of the Penn Museum.The ideal candidate is a an experienced museum mount maker or one aspiring to move up in responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree with emphasis in studio arts is preferred; prior museum experience required. Experience handling art objects preferred. This position requires skill and experience in the precision fabrication and finishing of metals such as brass, steel and aluminum, Plexiglas and wood; and with tools and general shop equipment, welders, torches, band saw, buffers and grinders. Digital photography and computer skills required, with knowledge of MS Word and Excel, and Photoshop preferred. Knowledge and practice of appropriate safety procedure required.
The successful candidate will have effective oral and written communication skills, ability to work to deadlines, and to work both independently and collaboratively with conservators and curators, designers and installers.
