Job Description
The Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island’s largest cultural organization, is seeking a Collections Manager to direct the registration and movement of the permanent collections of approx. 55,000 objects associated with its 11 historic properties. The Collections Manager reports to the Director of Museum Affairs and will oversee implementation of the digital collections database (using Museums Plus) and annual inventories; manage staff, volunteers and interns; coordinate all collections moves, loans and gifts, as well as providing collections policy oversight and access to information and resources for research inquiries, contractors and visitors.
The position demands a strong ability to multi-task and establish priorities, as well as willingness to work in a collaborative environment. The Collections Manager will represent PSNC in the community, as well as in professional organizations and associations and may be called upon to make public presentations.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Required: M.A. degree in art history, information studies or related field. At least 3-5 years of experience in similar position, with budget management experience preferred.
Familiarity with standard MS-Windows programs, collections management databases, photo digitization and editing software.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (with assistance). Must possess valid U.S. driver’s license.
