Job Description

Full-Time Head Preparator
BLUM & POE
Los Angeles, CA

BLUM & POE is seeking a full-time Head Preparator.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-- Organizing and monitoring all shipping procedures, international and domestic.
-- Preparing and overseeing coordination and installation/deinstallation of all exhibitions, as well as domestic and international art fairs.
-- Organizing and maintaining all in-house inventory, as well as overseeing management of off-site storage facilities.
-- Creating and archiving condition reports for incoming and outgoing artworks.
-- Managing special productions, which includes liaising with vendors on a project by project basis.
-- Scheduling and managing a full-time preparator, as well as a team of freelance art handlers.
-- Working with gallery staff in maintaining overall operations, upkeep and daily appearances of galleries, facilities, equipment, and security.

This is a full-time position with some evenings and weekends required, especially during installation and de-installation of exhibitions and art fairs. Salary is commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package includes health insurance and paid vacation and sick time.

Job Requirements

Requirements:
-- Minimum four years of experience handling art in a contemporary art gallery or museum.
-- Bachelor’s degree in art history, studio art or related field.
-- Basic knowledge of conservation, crating, framing, and international customs policies.
-- Proficiency with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and collection management software.
-- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-- Proven ability to prioritize an assortment of tasks and work well under pressure.

Preferred:
-- Master’s degree in art history, studio art or related field.
-- Experience with Artbase.
-- Speaking and/or written proficiency in Japanese or Chinese.
