The Office
of Collections, is seeking to hire a Collections Management Technician
(Museum Technician) to assist the Chief of Collections Management, Director
of Oral History and Oral History Archives Specialist in performing a
variety of duties associated with planning and participating in the
arrangement and rearrangement of the Museum oral history holdings.

The position is located in the Collections Management Branch, Collections
Services Division, Office of Collections, United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum. This position will address the arrangement of oral testimony
interviews produced or acquired by the Museum and to prepare them for
digitization. Incumbent has continuing responsibility for performing the
following tasks: processing, inventorying, identifying and preparing for
digitization, object tracking, transportation, and preservation.

This is a non-federal full-time term appointment not to exceed one (1) year
with benefits. Salary Range DS-9 - $51,630 – $67,114 (salary commensurate
with experience).

*Duties:*


Analyzes, develops, plans, and participates in arrangement or rearrangement
of the oral history collection, including: audio and video testimonies,
microfilm, sound recordings and photographic prints and negatives.

Assists in planning, relocating and updating records as collections are
moved for exhibition, loan, reference and storage.

Oversees the ongoing task of ensuring that all oral testimony interviews
are accounted for and inventoried.

Verifies number of objects, reconciles collections documentation, labels
each testimony, and guarantees that they are in their appropriate location.

Assists in the identification and preparation of collections for
digitization and shipment. Maintains and manages the collections through
digitization of the various artifacts.

Plans, relocates, and updates all records as audio and video taped oral
history interviews move from one location to another.

Assists in the coordination and management of transportation arrangements
for the movement of the oral history collection into or out of the Museum
to ensure physical and environmental safety and professional handling.

Identifies items in need of preservation and recommends specific action to
be taken to safeguard the materials.

Conducts research into the methodologies and techniques of the museum and
archive discipline to provide resources for the preservation and
conservation of collections.

Segregates materials in need of attention, forwards them to the appropriate
staff conservator or appropriate servicing facility, and rehouses them upon
their return.


*Qualification Requirements *

Knowledge of fundamental collections management principles, theoretical
concepts, techniques, and functions.

Experience identifying and preparing collections for digitization and
shipment.

Experience assisting in the arrangement or rearrangement of oral history
materials.

Experience conducting research into the methodologies and techniques of the
museum and archive discipline.

Experience or knowledge of conservation techniques for various types of
oral history materials, including the maintenance of relevant records.

Experience in or knowledge of preservation microfilming and microfilm
duplication, videotape and audiotape preservation, motion picture film and
photographic print and negative preservation.

Experience and/or knowledge of the safe movement, packing, and shippingof
collections in-house, on land, ocean and air.

Experience and/or the ability to develop and compose clear and concise
reports.

Experience verifying and reconciling collections documentation, labeling
testimonies, and ensuring that they are in their appropriate location.
