Job Description
Report to: Curator and Director of Exhibitions
Department: Exhibitions
Employment Type: Full Time
Overview of Responsibilities:
The Exhibitions Manager supports the activities of the Exhibitions department at MOCA. This includes a range of tasks involving exhibition production, and maintenance, registrarial work, and exhibition design and logistics.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate, supervise, and implement installation and de-installation of exhibitions (3-4 per year)
• Manage and maintain permanent and temporary exhibitions
• Ability to work with consultants for exhibition furniture and design
• Registrarial duties, including coordinating incoming temporary loans, condition reporting, and shipping coordination
• Supervise installation and art handling crews during installation and de-installation, order supplies, and manage installation lighting
• Manage exhibition management interns
• Maintain and organize exhibition files with curator
• Assist with rights and reproduction for the catalogue and other collateral
Skills and Knowledge Required:
• Fundamental knowledge of and experience in registrarial processes, exhibition installation, lighting and maintenance, and art handling processes.
• Exhibition coordination and project management in museum or gallery environment
• Ability to supervise and manage temporary installation crew and freelance designers
• Knowledge of concepts in Asian American history, art history and contemporary art desired
• Fluency in Filemaker Pro and Microsoft Office suite essential, Adobe suite preferred
• Institutional writing proficiency
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university desired with emphasis in curatorial/museum studies, art history, or Asian American studies preferred
• At least 2 years working in a museum or exhibition space, or equivalent experience
