Exhibitions constantly change and we move pieces at a constant rate, whether within our own vast collections, or by borrowing from, or loaning to, other institutions. Weare looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Associate Registrar to assist withthe critical activities of documenting and controlling the flow of existing andnew materials in and out of the Walker Art Center. Responsibilities willinclude:
Create and maintain exhibition records
* Maintain meticulous files to record the history ofthe receipt and care of objects.
* Work with exhibition staff and curator inpreparation of gallery space and establishing installation, and deinstallation,schedule.
Oversee object handling
* Arrange for packing, crating, insurance, andtransportation of borrowed objects
* Receive, examine and prepare condition reports andarrange for conservation as required on exhibition objects.
* Assist in moving items to and from museum storageto ensure proper handling. Prepare checklists and other exhibitionmaterials.
* Monitor all aspects of the circulating tour,travel as needed to oversee works in traveling exhibitions.
* Determine special security needs for each artwork.
Review Contracts and Policies
* Work with the curator and Visual Art Administratorto determine budget information and to review contracts for participatingmuseums of circulating exhibitions.
* Prepare loan agreements for lenders' signatures,and communicate with them to confirm exhibition loans.
Qualifications
* Must possess a minimum 3-5 years applicableexperience in a museum setting
* Degree in related field such as art history ormuseum studies
* Knowledge of art handling methods
* Proven ability to courier art nationally orinternationally on short notice
* Strong organizational skills and attention todetail
* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonalcommunication skills required.
