The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking a Museum Registrar for the
Georgia Capitol Museum. This position is a one-year position responsible
to the Museum Coordinator. This temporary position would operate at the
Russell Library’s offices on the University of Georgia campus in Athens and
be charged with conducting an inventory of approximately 3,000 items in the
collection. The Georgia Capitol Museum collection consists of a wide range
of items that relate to the history of Georgia and the Georgia Capitol,
including (but not limited to): artifacts, paintings, prints, natural
history specimens, Native American artifacts, flags and other textiles. The
inventory will include updating collection records in the Past Perfect
museum database, updating paper records, and rehousing items as needed to
ensure proper storage. With the inventory completed the Museum Registrar
will also review and make recommendations to the existing mission statement
and collecting policy of the Georgia Capitol Museum. Finally, the Museum
Registrar would be charged with the creation of a proposal suggesting items
for deaccession or transfer. This position will require inhabiting
unconventional office/storage spaces and occasional travel between the
University Athens Campus and storage facilities in Atlanta. The Museum
Registrar is a member of the University of Georgia Libraries non-tenure
track faculty.
