Collections and Exhibitions Manager
Founded in 2008, the Richard H. Driehaus Museum preserves and interprets a late 19th and early 20th century Fine and Decorative Arts collection and the Gilded Age home of Chicago entrepreneur Samuel Mayo Nickerson in order to promote the understanding and appreciation of historic architecture and design.
The Driehaus Museum is seeking a Collections & Exhibitions Manager to assist the Director in the management and care of the historic interiors and art collection. The candidate will manage the planning and installation of permanent and temporary exhibitions, coordinate special projects, supervise one full-time curatorial assistant and occasional interns, and assist with accessioning, cataloging, inventory, shipping, and storage of collections. The position ensures compliance with all RHDM policies and AAM collections standards and best practices.

Job Requirements
Knowledge and Skills Required:


Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or related field, and a minimum of five years of collections and/or exhibition management experience preferred. Master’s degree an asset.
Must thoroughly understand collections principles and practices, collections management issues and trends, care and conservation of collections, and exhibition planning and installation practices.
An interest in and/or experience working in historic buildings an asset.
Ability to plan, develop, monitor, and manage detailed budgets and to analyze and compile budget reports, summaries, and charts.
Excellent project management skills and strong initiative required.
Experience with computers, including museum cataloguing systems is vital and experience with The Museum System (TMS) is a plus.
Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software required.
Ability to write business correspondence and reports.
Demonstrated ability to work with effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of stakeholders including the board of directors, colleagues, consultants, vendors, and lenders.
Strong oral and written communication skills and a good understanding of professional museum practices of an accredited museum are important.
Must deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures and be meticulous, highly organized, conscientious, and flexible.
Current driver’s license and clean driving record required.
Ability to visually inspect artwork and historic interiors, sit or stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, and lift 30 pounds.
Must be able to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Must be available for occasional travel and extended hours, including weekends and evenings, as projects demand.
