The Langson IMCA Preparator is a hands-on, detail-oriented technician, who assumes the responsibility for the preparation and installation of the Museum's exhibitions and other art handling projects. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Exhibitions and Facilities Management, the Preparator is responsible for museum-quality art handling related to installation and de-installation, including receiving, packing and unpacking, handling, and displaying fine art objects; executing the fabrication of exhibition pedestals, mounts, temporary walls, and other display designs; assuring a safe and healthy work environment through knowledge of best practices. The Preparator is a key team member for the Museum's ambitious schedule of exhibitions and collection use.
Responsibilities and Requirements
1. Demonstrates a good knowledge of standard museum procedures with an emphasis on art/object handling and care with a minimum of two years of experience.
2. Competent with art object handling and installation, building slip-cases and art object packing and crating.
3. Competent using power tools, wood/metal shop machinery, and lifting apparatuses.
4. Familiarity with presentation technology such as media players and digital programming display.
5. Must be able to work as part of a team and have good communication skills and maintain professional working relationships with all staff.
6 Proficiency in light carpentry, interior painting, and graphics application.
7 Possesses a valid driver's license
