The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a Technologist C for the Museum at FIT.
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Exhibitions Manager, Exhibition Projects Coordinator, and Campus Projects Coordinator of the Museum at FIT, the candidate must be able to install fashion objects as well as 2-D and 3-D artwork and design objects, both in the museum and campus wide.
Under the supervision of the Exhibitions Production Coordinator and Campus Projects coordinator, assist with labor and museum installations.
Work as the support and assistant to the Campus Projects Coordinator including but not limited to attending faculty and student installation related meetings.
Attend exhibition departmental production meetings.
Assist coordinators with and participate in the creation of exhibition budgets and sourcing materials for both museum and campus projects.
Under the supervision of the Exhibitions Production Coordinator and Campus Projects Coordinator assist with oversight and inventory of the exhibition supplies such as lumber, paint, tools, lighting equipment, and related materials.
Must be able to produce paint or other surface treatment samples for all exhibitions.
Work with the coordinators in finding cost saving ideas and cultivating vendor relationships.
Oversee and maintain wood shop and paint shop supplies and equipment.
Conduct daily exhibition inspection and maintenance.
Requirements:
High School diploma and minimum of five years of museum experience and art installation required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Must have hands-on skills in basic carpentry, painting, and related work.
Must have experience with the installation of fashion, accessory, and textile objects for museum projects.
Must have experience in art handling and fine art installation.
Knowledge of Auto CAD/Vector Works preferred
Possess good organizational and note-taking skills to maintain records of meeting.
Preferred familiarity with media installation and technological development.
