Artech is seeking an experience Operations Manager to oversee its Installation, Transportation & Shipping, and Art Maintenance departments. The Operations Manager will manage several technical groups, some with their own supervisors, and is ultimately responsible for leading the efforts of their respective areas. The Operations Manager will partner with all other internal Artech departments and external consultants to ensure operations are executed seamlessly against agreed measures and metrics.
Key Responsibilities
Operation Services and Products Management:
Defining the product and service offerings
In collaboration with Artech management team and CEO, create a cohesive sales strategy to leverage all service and product lines.
Develop individual service line operating budgets and forecasts in support of projected revenues.
Develop departmental, team and individual performance goals in support of Artech’s overall operating goals and objectives.
Apply up-to-date knowledge of art related issues, trends, best practices, changes in materials, and/or legal issues to Artech’s business and standards.
Monitor client satisfaction and takes corrective action, as needed, in an effort to ensure account retention and customer satisfaction are always being met.
Provide additional direction, coordination and prioritization during periods of high volume activity to ensure successful delivery of services in order to meet the needs of the business.
Promote and fosters partnership across all departments and divisions wherein subject specialists are consulted by engaging in open dialogue to proactively serve client needs and ensure continuous improvements.
Conduct regular “lessons learned” (post mortem) sessions within Operations with other departments to understand issues and adjust processes, actions and behaviors accordingly.
Serve as escalation point as necessary.
Define the systems and processes needed within the division necessary to achieve Artech’s annual goals.
Serve as an ambassador for Artech in the arts community actively promoting partnerships where appropriate.
Financial:
Manage a divisional P&L (down to the departmental level) and is accountable for all elements above the controllable contribution line. Manages to gross margin targets (where applicable, the service level supervisor may share this responsibility)
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of direct and indirect costs, gross and net margins as defined by Artech and can use these to drive the business forward.
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Artech’s cost centers, areas of growth potential, and resource utilization.
Establish all field-based product and services fees and support annual pricing analysis and strategy.
People Management:
Recruit, hire, train and supervise Operations team by providing regular coaching and feedback, performance management, compensation reviews and ongoing development opportunities.
Oversee and provide regular guidance of Operations department supervisors and teams through regular 1:1 meetings, reviews and skip-level meetings.
Develop individual development and succession plans for all direct reports while looking at advancement possibilities where appropriate.
Ensure company policies, procedures and business ethics codes are communicated and implemented within the division.
Provide additional direction, coordination, and prioritization during high volume periods to ensure successful delivery of services and products to meet deadlines and service level commitments.
Serve as an example for division in areas of personal character, accountability, commitment, organizational and work habits.
Role model, train and coach service excellence as it applies to each department.
Other responsibilities as assigned or required by the position.
Required Skills and Abilities
7+ years of experience in the fine arts industry in management, and or with a demonstrated expanding scope of responsibilities building, managing and leading teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fine Arts or related field required, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
5+ years of experience managing service lines or products with demonstrated proficiency in owning cost, and or, profit centers.
Experience directly managing high-end or high-needs clientele.
Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve workplace and interpersonal conflicts.
Unquestionable business ethics and personal conduct.
Strong collaboration and influencing skills with demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams.
Strong understanding of customer segments, services, direct and indirect costs, operating margins.
Proven leadership and ability to drive and manage service and product lines and supporting teams.
Excellent client service and communication skills.
Demonstrated success working as part of a multi-functional management team.
Mostly local travel between 20-40% of the time with some weekend and evenings required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Construction Management, Museum Studies, Arts, or related certifications and experiences preferred.
Knowledge of transportation, shipping and fine goods storage practices preferred.
Knowledge of and interest in the arts, the art economy and the mindset of art sellers and collectors and agents.
In-depth knowledge of the region’s contemporary art and related markets strongly desired.
