    Founded in 1987, Ship/Art provides fine art services in the Bay Area, specializing in the handling of high value items. We provide clients around the world with packing, crating, transportation and storage. We provide services to clients with needs for expert handling, packing and transport of fine arts, antiques and technical equipment. We are located in South San Francisco and are open Monday thru Friday 9am-5 pm. We are a 15 minute walk from San Bruno BART station and close to the South Airport Blvd Exit off 101.

    ART CRATER

    PRIMARY PURPOSE
    Under the guidance and direction of the Crate Shop manager, the Art Crater’s job duties include fabricating and finishing high quality crates for the transportation for fine art & antiques, from museums, galleries and private collectors. The role involves guaranteeing the highest quality of crating services for the most fragile and valuable art packing, art delivery, art shipping, and art handling.

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    Job duties include the construction of crates for the transportation of fine art, antiques, and valuable objects from museums, galleries and private collectors. The position involves fabrication of custom high quality crates for packing, delivery, domestic and international shipping. Crate making is a precise and responsible trade craft requiring; precise measurement taking, carpentry knowledge and strong attention to detail ensuring the security and safety of art at any stage during the transportation process.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Table saw / Miter saw: Ability to perform basic functions resulting in accurate cuts
    • Willingness to be trained by others in proper and safe cutting procedures
    • Understands basic aspects of art handling in a safe and efficient manner
    • Basic knowledge and willingness to operate shop tools including Jigsaw, Handheld Drills, Palm Sander, Circular saw, Nail guns, Glue guns, etc
    • Hand held routers; knowledge of basic router bits used for a variety of functions• Willingness to be trained by other in proper use of routers

    QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

    • Minimum 1+ year experience working in a crate shop, wood shop, or construction environment
    • Demonstrates basic skills required to assemble cut parts with supervision
    • Willingness to learn new skills, and apply them in multiple environments
    • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues in real time
    • Ability to follow detailed instructions and specific protocols to maintain safety or artwork and co-workers

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Ability to physically carry out the work required in lifting/moving artworks
    • Awareness/understanding of structural supports and framing is a plus
    • An ability to work with a team through clear and direct communication • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
    • Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs sustained and up to 100 lbs• High School Diploma or GED equivalent, college degree preferred
    • Requires each incumbent to complete and pass STA application and verification.
    • Requires background check, employment physical, performance evaluation (lifting test)

    ART HANDLER / INSTALLER / DRIVER

    PRIMARY PURPOSE
    Under the guidance and direction of the truck managers, the Art Handler/Driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient and professional operation of Company trucks while delivering to our customers. The employee must also assist or complete required services as outlined by Bill of Ladings and/or instructions as assigned by the lead driver or dispatcher.

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    Ship Art International is seeking a full-time art handler/driver with expert art installation, packaging and customer service skills to join our team of arts professionals. The art handler/driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient and professional operation of company trucks delivering and installing fine art to our customers. Also required is the assistance completing required services as outlined by bill of ladings and/or instructions as assigned by the lead driver or dispatcher.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Installation of various artworks in a safe and efficient manner
    • Packs and handles artwork for delivery
    • Loads and offloads artworks
    • Operates a company vehicle to safely deliver product to customers
    • Reviews all paperwork to insure complete and accurate deliveries
    • Communicates with Dispatch via cell phone timely information concerning deliveries
    • Maintains all required paperwork i.e. truck log, top-sheets, bills of lading of jobs in progress
    • Provides friendly, quality professional service to clients and customers
    • Willingness to be trained by others in proper and safe fine art installation, packing and transportation techniques

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • 2+ years of art handling experience in an art shipping organization, museum, and/or gallery
    • Commercial truck driving experience preferred
    • Must be willing and capable to work a flexible schedule
    • Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues on-site in real time
    • Ability to follow very detailed instructions and specific protocols to maintain safety of artwork and co-workers

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hours of work: Truck department staff must be willing and capable to work a flexible schedule. There is work availability expectation of 8:00 am through 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
    • Experience in handling art works, knowledge of fixings, hanging systems, art transport, packing/storage

    • Awareness/understanding of various hanging techniques for 2-D artworks
    • Knowledge of packing materials and methods specific to fine art transportation and storage
    • Physical ability required in lifting/moving artworks
    • Ability to work as part of a team; good communication skills
    • Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs sustained and up to 100 lbs
    • Ability to drive Sprinter vans small box trucks, larger truck driving experience preferred
    • Required to possess a valid California driver license and a clean driving record at the time and duration of employment.
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, college degree preferred
    • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
    • Requires each incumbent to complete and pass STA application and verification.
    • Requires background check, employment physical, performance evaluation (lifting test)

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, bend, lift, and use hands. Movement may occur in warehouses and offices. The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee may perform on an occasional to regular basis while performing functions of this job.
