Junior Collections Management Technician (Regular, Full-Time)
Collections Management The Junior Collections Management Technician for Works on Paper works partly as a specialist for works of art on paper, and partly as a collections management generalist. Duties include artwork housing and movement, collections access, and storeroom maintenance. This is an entry-level position within the field of Collections Management. Responsibilities
Assist with day-to-day operations of collection storage spaces.
Assist with collections access requests.
House museum objects for storage and transit.
Prepare, receive and release art shipments.
Track objects in the objects database and work request system.
Receive and release art shipments.
Monitor storerooms for pest activity and environmental stability.
Assist with storeroom maintenance and upgrades.
Keep work and storage areas clean and maintain tools and equipment.
Perform other duties or special projects, as assigned.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Attend departmental, division, museum-wide meetings, and training, as directed.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience with one or more of the following areas is desired: museum collection management, art preparation, and installation, museum registration, conservation, carpentry, photography, studio art, theater, film production, libraries, archives, warehouse management, fine art shipping, art gallery management, private collection management.
Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial reasoning.
Ability to follow instructions, plan ahead, and problem solve.
Basic knowledge of packing techniques and packing materials.
High attention to detail.
Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software is desired. Knowledge of Google drive and museum databases is a plus.
Ability to:
Work independently and within a team.
Communicate and collaborate with colleagues.
Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds on your own.
Operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, and other lift equipment is desired.
Use and maintain basic hand tools such as drills and impact drivers is desired.
Periodic travel within Los Angeles County is required.
