Job Requisition Number: 12826. The Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology was founded in 1901 by Phoebe Apperson Hearst, a visionary who saw the Hearst as the cultural cornerstone of one of the world?s leading research institutions. Today, the Hearst Museum houses the oldest and largest anthropological collection in the Western U.S., preserving and interpreting a global record of material culture as represented by more than 3.8 million cataloged objects. The Museum aims to promote the history and diversity of human cultures through research, education, exhibitions and public programs.
Requirements
- Must possess a degree with a specialization in Museum Science or related disci-pline and one year of experience in curatorial work; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions - Must have proven track record of punctuality and dependability - Must possess manual dexterity/ability to carefully carry and handle Museum photographic collections - Must be able to lift up to 40lbs - Must hold a valid California Drivers license The Phoebe A. Hearst Museum has initiated a project to re-house its important collections of audio and visual holdings to provide optimal storage conditions for preservation of those collections. The purchase and installation of freezers suitable for film storage will enable the moving and re-housing of negatives, transparencies, and color slides and constitutes Phase I of the project. The incumbent will be responsible for rehousing, packaging, and placement of the film and color transparency collections of the Museum into the freezer. The incumbent will provide identification of negative films by visual and chemical methods, record new locations of the individual items and/or collections in the Museum database system, and transfer of information from old negative envelopes to new ones using a personal computer. - Must possess a degree with a specialization in Museum Science or related disci-pline and one year of experience in curatorial work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
